Publications: Hopes For the Future: Indigenous Knowledge as an Enabler of Potential (2017)
Research Interests: in the 90s focussed on working with schools to collaborate with indigenous Māori families, students and their communities through the development of Māori language assessment tools and relational and responsive literacy and behavioural interventions. In 2001, this work merged with the inception of Te Kotahitanga, an iterative research and professional development programme aimed at developing relational and culturally responsive pedagogy to promote Māori students’ educational success as Māori. Ongoing evidence continues to make the work of addressing disparities for Māori through education and whole school reform, a priority. Reform such as this benefits from praxis that is embedded in kaupapa Māori and critical theories.
